Age of Conan still selling well
July 1st, 2008 |
Since the release of Age of Conan the game has stayed high on the charts in both Europe and the U.S. More than 700 000 players have bought the game and signed up for an account so far. Funcom claims that this means that AoC is the second most popular MMORPG in the western world after … you know what.
There are some ifs in there, like “in the western world”. Runescape and a few other older MMORPGs have millions of subscribers, which means that if we look on the whole world, the ranking will be a little different to. Also, games like Guild Wars, Team Fortress 2 and Counter-Strike can’t compete on this list since they are not subscription-based games, and some not MMORPGs.
Still, Age of Conan is doing much better than many of the other games we have seen, like Pirates of the Burning Sea and Vanguard. We haven’t found any numbers of how many of the buyers of the first week actually are subscribing yet, so it will be interested to see when Funcom releases numbers on subscribers that actually subscribe and not only play for the included month.
